The Abruzzo Region with Tenuta Tre Gemme proposes itself to the UAE market from the production, with low environmental impact to the attention to the rights of non-EU workers. The winery has focused its promotion on Passimento, a deep ruby red wine, well known in Italy and abroad.
But not only that, even within the EU, Abruzzo wine is making its way. The first international meeting of the sector was held at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, "Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris" is highly anticipated by operators.
France is not the only country on which the Consortium is investing since the end of January, it is known it will be the protagonist of the Slow Wine Tour, which will touch the cities of San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, Miami and New York.
From an enological point of view, its hills offer wines for every necessity. Abruzzo wines are mainly red, however, there are also quality white wines. The main grape varieties are Montepulciano and Trebbiano, which in their many facets when they are blended with other autochthonous grapes, give life to wines which are not always very famous but however excellent.
Abruzzo wines, mainly red wines, have different organoleptic characteristics from Umbrian wines, because they are drier and full bodied, because of the mild but cool climate of the hills. Here are some wines to try:
This wine is the symbol of the region, it has a ruby red color and an aroma of red fruits with spicy notes. It is dry and smooth on the palate. It is a wine that can have two faces: when drunk young (from 6/8 months up to 18 months after harvesting) it is fresh and smooth while maturing for a long time in oak casks increases complexity and character. It is almost exclusively produced with grapes of the homonymous vine, with the addition of other red grapes, always from Abruzzo. It goes well with red meat, cold cuts, and salami as well as full-bodied pasta dishes such as baked pasta.
A cherry red colored wine, obtained by Montepulciano grapes, by using a particular vinification technique, the white one. It is an ancient method, traditional in Abruzzo, which over the years has undergone constant technical evolution. It is a very crisp wine with a fruity bouquet and a dry and harmonic taste and a final almond aftertaste. At the table, it can be matched in a very versatile way to meat dishes, fish, pasta and vegetables and it is perfect with pizza, fried foods, and tempura.
Abruzzo Doc brings together the autochthonous grape varieties of the region. Red Abruzzo Doc is based on Montepulciano (at least 80%), from these grapes is also produced Pecorino. This Masciarelli is a white wine, with a straw yellow color, one of the few wines of the winery established in 1978. Floral and fruity to the nose with mineral notes, it is crisp to the palate, driven by citrus tones in the finish. Suitable for white fish and white meat.
Villamagna Doc
Villamagna Doc was awarded the appellation in 2011 and it is produced with Montepulciano grapes exclusively from Villamagna, in the province of Chieti. This is an important red wine which has much in common with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. It has a ruby red color, the aroma has hints of red fruits while the palate is dry with a mineral aftertaste. Excellent with red meat, game and first courses with mushrooms.
Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is produced with Trebbiano d'Abruzzo and/or Trebbiano Toscano grapes with the addition of other white berried grapes of the Abruzzi territory. With a straw yellow color, it has floral notes to the nose, and to the palate, it is crisp and dry. Excellent as a fresh wine, but also aged where it is drier. Ideal for grilled or raw fish, vegetables and white meat main courses.
