In 1955 the Librandi family bought the Ponta estate. Subsequently, they bought other small parcels.
The Librandi family has been dedicated to viticulture for several generations. They managed to transform a small winery, linked to family traditions, into one of the most important brands of Italian wine. Today the Librandi cellars are managed by Nicodemo, his two sons Paolo and Raffaele, his nephew Francesco and his niece Teresa.
Today the Librandi estate has an area of 6500 square meters, where the grapes from the vineyards located in the municipalities of Rocca di Neto, Strongoli, Crucoli, and Casabona converge. The Mediterranean climate of these areas brings the grapes to perfect ripeness.
The choice of grapes is mainly based on native varieties, such as Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco, which have been present in the area for hundreds of years. Among the rows of vines, there is a labyrinth made of concentric circles, in which ancient clones of grapes that are no longer available come to life.
The vineyards of the Librandi winery extend over 230 hectares, producing more than two million bottles a year. The company invests in research and development to enhance both international varieties and native and minor varieties.
Thanks to the production of high quality wines, the Librandi winery has spread Calabrian wine all over the world.
The Librandi Vini are among the most famous Calabrian wines and over the years they have received important awards, distinguishing themselves among the best Italian wines. Red wines are mostly produced using Gaglioppo, in its various forms, sometimes blended with Cabernet Sauvignon.
Duca San Felice Librandi Cirò Rosso DOC Riserva is obtained from grapes harvested from old sapling-trained vines, coming from the Duca San Felice vineyard which gives its name to the wine itself. This Calabrian red wine has a strong character and cherry scent. Librandi Duca San Felice is very balanced with medium minerality, and a taste of ripe cherry and raspberry fruit, notes of tobacco, and spices with excellent persistence.
Librandi Megonio IGT Calabria obtained from historic grapes of the Calabrian Magliocco grape variety. This elegant wine has a pleasant aroma of plums and black fruits with light hints of pepper, tobacco, and chocolate. Megonio Librandi has a great persistence, velvety and soft. On the palate, it is savory with medium acidity and intense aroma. Megonio wine takes its name from a Roman centurion who owned part of the estate that Librandi owns today.
Very well structured Librandi Gravello ITG Calabria demonstrates a great experience and genuine traditions of the Librandi Winery. This wine is a perfect blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Gaglioppo. The nose opens with ripe red fruits and spicy notes. Elegant and delicate with a long and pleasant aftertaste. Gravello Librandi is one of the company's flagship wines and a symbol of Calabrian wines.
White wine Librandi Critone IGT Calabria is a blend of Chardonnay (90%) and Sauvignon Blanc (10%). This wine has delicate fruity hints of melon, banana, peach, and pineapple. Critone Librandi Bianco has a perfect balance between flavor and freshness. This Calabrian white wine has refined personality blends and a commendable finish. Definitely one of the best Librandi wines.
Calabrian wine Efeso IGT grown in the Rosaneti Estate. This complex and rich wine is made from Mantonico, a type of grape that grows only in southern Italy. The taste is opulent, and fruity at the same time. Hints of apples, exotic fruits, orange blossom, vanilla, honey, and mint open to the nose from the first sip. Efeso Librandi Calabria IGT has been awarded several times for its great quality.
Good news for lovers of dessert wines - Le Passule IGT Calabria Vino Passito. It is made from Mantonico grapes and has the sweetness of sun-dried raisins. It has hints of candied fruit and caramelized dried fruit. The wine is pleasantly sweet, persistent, and enveloping. Perfect to accompany desserts or aged cheeses.
