Regardless of the location, Cantina Tommasi's focus is on producing exceptional wines that showcase the unique qualities of each terroir. They achieve this through a combination of traditional techniques and innovative experimentation, always prioritizing quality at every stage of production.
For four generations, the Tommasi family has been trailblazers, pioneers, and visionaries in the wine industry, committed to producing authentic wines that delight palates. They continue to push boundaries while respecting tradition, ensuring that their legacy of producing exceptional wines lives on.
For over a century, the Tommasi family has been dedicated to the art of winemaking. It all began in 1902 when Giacomo Tommasi acquired a small plot of land in Valpolicella Classica. In 1959, the family created their first official vintage of Tommasi Amarone Classico, made from the natural "appassimento" process of Corvina, Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes. Since then, the Tommasi family has continued to strive for excellence in every vintage, adhering to Giacomo's winemaking principles.
In 1968, the third generation of the family embarked on a new path of expansion, extending beyond the Verona market. By 1970, Tommasi had consolidated its sales in Italy and began exporting abroad. Over the next decade, the company's mission was to introduce the Tommasi name and iconic wines to markets worldwide, leading to a consolidation of foreign markets, including the United States, Switzerland, Canada, and Ireland.
In 1997, the fourth generation of the family officially took on key roles in the company. They initiated the Tommasi Family Estates project, purchasing vineyards in Valpolicella and other prime wine regions beyond Veneto, including Tuscan Maremma with Poggio al Tufo. To celebrate the winery's 110th anniversary in 2010, a new aging cellar was constructed exclusively for Amarone wines. The cellar's centerpiece is the Magnifica barrel, the world's largest barrel, with a capacity of 33,000 liters.
Today, Cantina Tommasi remains committed to producing exceptional wines, setting the benchmark for excellence in Italian winemaking. The family's dedication to the art of winemaking and continuous pursuit of better wine continues to propel the company forward.
Tommasi wines have earned worldwide acclaim for their exquisite taste and craftsmanship, a testament to the dedication and passion of the Tommasi family for producing exceptional wines for over a century. The company has a long-standing history of producing Valpolicella wines of the highest quality and authenticity since 1902. Their traditional wine is a true gem that deserves recognition for its exceptional quality.
