Tasting wine in the right way requires following some precise criteria, that can be valuable for both prestigious and elegant wines and the most common ones for lunch and dinner. Let’s look at them in the specific.

White wine: how to serve it on the table

  1. How to serve a white wine: You must start from the position of the bottle, which must be put directed to us, from 750 ml, in order to see exactly the quantity of wine to serve. The label must always be directed to the high, in order to show it to other diners, both for restaurants and family dinners, synonymous with knowledge and accuracy. In the case of big bottles, it is possible to hold them with two hands.
  2. The temperature: wine must never be served too cold, under 6 degrees; the only wines that can be drunk at 8 degrees sparkling wines, which must always be served cold. For white wines, in some specific cases, it is served between 8° e 10°, while generally they must be brought to the table at 10/12 degrees, based on their age. For example, rosé wines must be served at 11 degrees, red wines at 16/18 degrees, deepening on their aging. On the other hand, since some of them are already bull-bodied and warm, they must not be served at higher temperatures. At most, the very aged ones reach 20° but no more.
  3. Glasses: they generally must be arranged on the right side. There is one for water, then one for red wine, and subsequently the one for white wine. Generally speaking, glasses for white wines are smaller than for red ones.  For the ones having a light body, a tulip-shaped glass is ideal because it prolongs the appreciation of its crispness. It is wider in the center and rises thinner with a length of 10 cm (4 inches).

The best Italian white wines to buy on Italian Wine Lover

Are you looking for the best three Italian white wines that you can find on the website, in order to refill your wine shops? Here they are.

Cà dei Frati I Frati Lugana DOC

One of the best wine cellars, conceived for aging. It expresses the best part of itself many years after bottling. Its color is a bright straw yellow, while the scent is fresh with floral and balsamic notes. On the palate, there are evident hints of apricot and almond. During its youth, it is fresh, linear, and very fine. After aging, it becomes more full-bodied and has a savory final aftertaste. It is cultivated with a guyot system, and it is aged in steel tanks for six months and then in bottles for another two months.

How to serve it? Preferably chilled. It is suitable for aperitifs, especially with grilled vegetables or aged cheeses. It is also enjoyable with boiled fish.

Attems Ribolla Gialla Venezia Giulia IGT

The company is linked to the Attems dynasty, which dates to 1106. Over the centuries, the family has become a reference point for wine production in Friuli: in 1964, Count Douglas Attems founded the Consorzio dei Vini del Collio, the first in Friuli. Today the winery, located in Capriva del Friuli, spreads on 44 hectares.

This white wine has a brilliant color, straw yellow with greenish hints. Intense aroma with floral notes which are followed by delicate hints of bread. On the palate, it is light, subtle, and dynamic thanks to a fresh and sapid taste with a final aftertaste of balsamic notes.

It is fermented in steel barrels and aged for 4 months.

How to serve it? Perfect to drink cold as an aperitif for its lightness or with first courses of fish and raw vegetables.

Livio Felluga Pinot Grigio Friuli Colli Orientali DOC

This white wine is the excellence among Friulian wines. Livio Felluga started his activity as a producer by purchasing some vineyards in Rosazzo, one of the most beautiful and suited areas of the whole Colli Orientali area. From the beginning, he directed his production toward the research of quality. Today the family has an estate of 150 hectares (2500 acres) in Colli Orientali and Collio. It’s one of the most exported white wines from Friuli.

The climate of the Friulian hills gives the wine an aroma of tropical fruit and citrus fruits, with a spicy aftertaste. On the palate, it is smooth, with a fruity finish and a good consistency, while it has an intense yellow color with copper hues. The grapes are softly pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Before bottling, the wine rests on the lees in stainless steel tanks for about 6 months, which gives it a full-bodied taste and an evident hint of fruit.

How to serve it? It is a very versatile white wine for the table, that should be served cold (at least 10° C) and is much more enjoyable when opened, so you must serve it immediately. It can accompany vegetable-based first courses, seafood menus (both first and second courses), and even delicate white meats.
